17/03/2026 - CAMPIONE D'ITALIA 2026
The Tazio Nuvolari Museum tells the story of Campione d’Italia: drivers, engines and passion in the spirit of the “Flying Mantuan”
Mantua, On Thursday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m., in the evocative spaces of the Tazio Nuvolari Museum on Via Giulio Romano in Mantua, housed inside a fascinating deconsecrated church, a special talk will be held focusing on Tazio Nuvolari’s participation in 1946 at the Campione d’Italia Automobile Circuit and on the bond between the famous Mantuan driver and what is known as the smallest racing circuit in the world.
The event will be a journey through history, engines and memory, featuring stories, images and anecdotes that bring back to light a little-known chapter of the epic of Italian motor racing. In 1946, in an Italy slowly recovering after the war, the name of Nuvolari once again ignited the passion of enthusiasts precisely on the spectacular Campione d’Italia circuit, a unique track set between the lake and the mountains.
During the talk, stories of drivers, legendary cars and racing passion will be shared, intertwining the myth of the “Flying Mantuan” with the history of the lakeside circuit, still remembered today as the smallest automobile racing circuit in the world, yet capable of attracting major figures of international motorsport.
The event will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the importance of preserving the historical memory of motor racing, the role of historical re-enactments and the cultural promotion work carried out by the Tazio Nuvolari Museum.
The talk will also serve as the stage to present the cultural highlights of the 2026 Campione Circuit, the book published in December titled “History of the Campione d’Italia Circuit”, and, in preview, the Tazio Nuvolari Museum Trophy, which will once again be awarded in the next edition as it was in 2025.
Speakers will include:
• Ermanno De Angelis, organizer of the Historic Re-enactment of the Campione d’Italia Circuit, who will recount the history of the race and the project aimed at reviving the atmosphere of those extraordinary competitions.
• Giuseppe Pottocar, Director of the Tazio Nuvolari Museum, who will illustrate the connection between the Mantua museum and the figure of Nuvolari within the broader context of international motorsport history.
“Hosting the presentation of the Campione d’Italia Classic Car Circuit at our Museum is not only another tribute to the memory of the ‘Flying Mantuan’, but also a concrete act of promoting the international motor racing heritage. This collaboration represents an ideal bridge between the heroic history of motor racing and the revival of iconic circuits. By joining forces with an outstanding initiative, we reaffirm the mission of the Nuvolari Museum as a cultural hub capable of attracting global attention and keeping alive, with a cross-border perspective, the passion for the great stories of drivers and engines,” said Giuseppe Pottocar.
“An important moment for the cultural journey of the Campione Circuit, taking place in the ‘home’ of the Flying Mantuan, who took part, albeit unsuccessfully, in the 1946 edition of the race. It is a strong bond that tells the story of engines and racing, linking ‘the smallest circuit in the world’ with ‘the most iconic driver of all time’, within a cultural context that still lives on today through the historical re-enactment of the event,” said Ermanno De Angelis.
The meeting aims to be a moment of storytelling and sharing, bringing together enthusiasts, scholars and the curious around the timeless figure of Tazio Nuvolari, a symbol of courage, talent and passion for motorsport.
An unmissable event for anyone who loves the history of racing, great champions and the timeless charm of automobile competitions.
