The Museo Tazio Nuvolari took center stage at the USI Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano with a lecture dedicated to the relationship between motorsport, culture, and international tourism.
During the Master’s Degree course in International Tourism, museum director Giuseppe Pottocar delivered a speech focused on the legendary figure of Tazio Nuvolari and on the cultural path developed by the Mantua-based museum in recent years. The presentation highlighted how Italy’s motorsport heritage can today represent a powerful tool for cultural promotion and international tourism development. At the heart of the lecture was the myth of the “Flying Mantuan,” a timeless symbol of courage, innovation, and passion, as well as the role of the museum as a place capable of bringing together historical memory, cultural dissemination, and territorial promotion. Located in Mantova, inside the evocative setting of a former deconsecrated church in Via Giulio Romano, the Museo Tazio Nuvolari continues to promote cultural initiatives dedicated to the history of motorsport and the great champions of racing.
During the meeting, attention was also given to the connection between Nuvolari and the Circuito di Campione d’Italia, famously known as the “smallest circuit in the world,” now at the center of important historical and cultural preservation activities through reenactments and events dedicated to the golden era of motor racing. The lecture offered students an opportunity to reflect on the contemporary value of sporting memory and on the importance of collaborations between museums, universities, and international events in creating new forms of cultural and experiential tourism.
The meeting in Lugano once again confirmed the growing role of the Museo Tazio Nuvolari as a cultural institution capable of telling the world not only the story of one of the greatest racing drivers of all time, but also the universal value of Italian motorsport culture.
Special thanks were extended to Professor Claudio Visentin of the Università della Svizzera Italiana, as well as to Ermanno De Angelis and Nunzia Del Gaudio, organizers of the Circuito di Campione d’Italia.
