01/06/2026 - Lo sguardo di Nuvolari
"On the centenary of the Automobile Club Mantova, “Lo sguardo di Nuvolari” (Nuvolari’s Gaze) comes to life. This new exhibition dedicated to Tazio Nuvolari will be officially presented on June 3rd at 11:00 AM in the Sala dei Cavalli at Palazzo Te.
"Lo sguardo di Nuvolari" opens at the Fruttiere of Palazzo Te, offering the public a collection of photographs taken by Nuvolari himself. These images are projected onto giant screens to create an unprecedented, immersive visual experience. The exhibition will be open to the public from June 3rd to June 7th, renewing and updating
"Quando scatta Nuvolari" (When Nuvolari Snaps), the highly successful 2009 exhibition held at Palazzo Te. While the photographs back then were printed and framed, today those same images return in a spectacular format, fully engaging visitors with all the power of Tazio’s original perspective. Among the items on display is a piece of exceptional historical value: the Vanderbilt Cup, won by Nuvolari in 1936 at the Roosevelt Raceway in the United States—one of the most prestigious world motorsport trophies of the era—generously on loan from the Nicolis Museum in Villafranca di Verona.
Years later, this new cultural project builds upon that previous experience and expands its narrative. It shifts the focus back to not only the racing champion but also the gaze of the man himself: his sensitivity, his modern vision, and his relationship with travel, speed, and his own era. The exhibition is one of the main highlights of the centenary celebrations for the Automobile Club Mantova. It aims to celebrate the deep bond between Nuvolari and the city, reaffirming Mantua’s role as a symbolic landmark for Italian motorsport heritage. Within this framework lies the invaluable, decades-long support that the Fondazione Banca Agricola Mantovana has provided to the cultural projects of the Aci Mantova's Tazio Nuvolari Museum—an admirable example of collaboration in promoting the excellence of our region.
"We know Nuvolari for his victories, his records, and his legendary feats," states Alberto Marenghi, President of the Automobile Club Mantova. "But these photographs show us something different: his perspective on daily life, on the world around him, and on the people he loved.
It is an intimate, unexpected, and deeply moving Nuvolari. Seeing these images projected on such a spectacular scale at the Fruttiere of Palazzo Te, on the occasion of our centenary, is an unforgettable emotion." Speakers at the opening will include Geronimo La Russa, President of ACI (Automobile Club d’Italia); Giovanni Pasetti, President of Fondazione Palazzo Te; motorsport historian Gianni Cancellieri; and Alberto Marenghi, President of ACI Mantova."
